SPD Gameday: Week 10

SPD vs. IDEM-2: Let's WIN! WOOOooooooooooooooooo!

September 24, 2009

T-Bombs officially playing for pride in Week 10

After back to back to back to back to back to back losses, the Tabor Bombs go into Week 10's contest trying to salvage their pride. DOE humiliated the SPD squad 18-3. A 12-run first inning is not a good start. Not much more to say. The last five games the T-Bombs have given up 90 runs (20, 19, 18, 17 and 16).

I interrupt this post to go vomit.

T-Bombs fall continues

Recap coming soon of the T-Bombs doubleheader Wednesday night.

September 9, 2009

Motivate yourself and get to Chuck Klein Park TONIGHT you T-Bombs!

A great coach once said:

You know, when you were a baby in your crib, your father looked down at you, he had but one hope - some day my son (or daughter) will grow to be a man (or woman).

Well look at you now. You just got your asses whipped by a bunch of god**** nerds. Nerds! Well, if I was you, I'd do something about it. I would get up and redeem myself in the eyes of my father, my maker, and my coach!

The Tabor Bombs play tonight 8 and 9 p.m. A team will be on that field. Play these games for our inspiration - L. Tabor. If her doctor would let her she'd wheel her ass out there and give 110%. Think about that!

In my opinion that sucked!

Jim Mora can handle the recap of game 5.

"We couldn't do diddley-poo offensively. . . It was a horseshit performance. . . I'm totally embarrassed and totally ashamed. . . Coaching did a horrible job. The players did a horrible job. We got our ass kicked . . . It sucked. It stunk!" Jim Mora

Can't see YouTube at work? Listen here:

Blank We didn't do diddley-poo...

"Playoffs? Playoffs? You kiddin' me playoffs. I just hope we can win a game. Another game?" Jim Mora
More from Coach Mora:

BlankPlayoffs? You kidding me?

SPD Gameday: Game 5 vs. Dept. of Insurance

Tonight SPD (3-1) looks to get back on the winning track with an 8 p.m. contest versus the Department of Insurance (2-2). Coach says: "Relax, focus, and play hard. Don’t ask how deep the water is. Just jump in and start swimmin’!"

Results tomorrow.

Postgame recap....Christ I can't find it...the hell with it!

The T-Bombs couldn't recover from a slow start Wednesday night in an 8-7 loss to DNRma. With the loss the TBs are now 3-1 on the season and play next week against Dept. of Insurance at 8 p.m. IDOI was a 21-4 winner over IEDC last night.

The T-Bombs fell behind 6-1 but a 5-run 5th inning tied the score. However, DNR got 2 in the bottom of the inning and the T-Bombs squandered some opportunities including Webmaster's bonehead baserunning error. The TBs could only manage 1 run and then the clock ran to zero in the bottom of the 6th.

Not much more to say about this one, but Coach tried.

Postgame wrap with Coach
A tough night for the T-Bombs. You feel like your team let one get away?
We absolutely beat ourselves. No doubt about it. We win as a team and we lose as a team. There’s no one thing in particular that you can point to. We all just stunk the joint up.

Talk about the slow start getting down 6-1 after 4 innings?

I don’t know if it was a lack of focus, or a lack of effort, or what. But we just didn’t have it tonight, bottom line.

What can the team do better next week?
We just need to put this one behind us and move on to next week. There’s nothing we can do about this game, its gone. The important is not to let DNR beat us two weeks in a row. We just need to come out with same fire, energy, and confidence that we’re capable of and everything will be fine.

Any positives in a loss?
I mean, I probably couldn’t script up a worse game for us. We played poorly in every facet of the game. And with all that said, we still only lost by one run. We’re still a good team, and one loss is not going to define our season.

Game Notes
Cookie earned a nomination for a game ball with her play as she reached base 3 times...The TBs turned another double play as Coach threw out a runner at first and then Webmaster tossed home to Joy Toy who chased down a runner for the twin killing...I think the chick is still running scared down the 3rd base line. We have no comment on the officiating as we fear fines from the league...Tina was very frustrated after the game (She pounded 4 beers in the parking lot) as replays showed her line drive in the 5th was fair, mysteriously the tape of the game can not be found. Two Scoops and Lawyer Brown managed to clinch a gold glove for the DNR's third baseman with identical line drive outs in the early innings...An unidentified player in the IDOI-IEDC game broke an arm (bone was sticking out according to reports) and was taken to the hospital. OUCH!

SPD Gameday: Game 4 vs. DNRma

Let's try this again. The forecast looks good for tonight. SPD looks to stay unbeaten against the squad from DNR. Gametime is at 8 p.m. on Field 2.

Coach Thoughts
Big test for us tonight. First time we’re playing a team with a winning record. We’re gonna find out what we’re made of tonight. I need everyone to be ready to give me 7 innings of all they got! We didn’t play last week and you might get a little tired if we play a full game, so remember this: Don’t let fatigue make a coward of ya. Don’t fold up the tent just cuz things get tough. Bring your hard hat and your lunch pail and let’s get ready to go to work!

Game 4 vs. Governor's Office

Update: T-Bombs game is rained out

The history of the Tabor Bomber

I found this online:
With its 40m wingspan and an all-up-weight of 20280kg, design of the six 450hp Napier Lion-powered Tarrant Tabor began in the latter stages of World War I. It was intended to carry a 700kg bombload to Berlin from an English airfield. Estimated to have had a top level speed of 170km/h, F 1765, the sole example of the Tabor built, was readied for its maiden flight from the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough on 26 May, 1919. The pilot and co-pilot selected to make the flight were Captains F.G. Dunn and P.T. Rawlings. For whatever reason, it was decided that the first take-off run would be attempted with only the lower four engines at full throttle. However, as the colossal machine rolled across the airfield, the pilots brought both of the upper engines to full power, causing the aircraft to nose over into the ground and to inflict fatal injuries on both men.
Also read more from the Wiki entry. 90 years later these Tabor Bombers are for real. Tonight, the Tabor Bombs battle Governor Daniels squad looking to stay in first place. Game time is a 10 p.m. or probably later...Bring the Red Bull on Thursday morning!

Game Notes:
T-Bombs leading hitter Handsome John will miss tonight's game due to illness. Tonight's pinch-player will be announced at gametime.

Coach Thoughts:
Everyone in the league is looking around wondering, “how’d this crappy SPD team get so good?” In the words of Yogi Berra; the future ain’t what it used to be. SPD is here to play and here to stay. We gotta stay hunger and keep playin’ hard though, because you’re only as good as your last game. It’s like an old coach used to tell me, “there’s only 2 pieces of *expletive* you’re gonna remember and that’s the first and the last. Let’s send Mitch and that dadgum motorcycle packin’.

Let's avoid what happened to the Tarrant Tabor Bomber in 1919:

T-Bombs win another laugher

This time the fight was stopped in the 5th inning. Two Scoops singled home Coach and the T-Bombs stayed undefeated, winning 14-4 over the Indiana House Democrats Wednesday night. The T-Bombs are now 3-0 and stand alone at the top of the Rec League standings after 3 weeks.

SPD trailed 4-0 after a half-inning, but responded with 4 in the bottom half of the first. Coach Kyle's 2-run double made it 7-4 in the 2nd inning. Coach returned to the lineup after missing the game with the Arkansas Wedding Flu. Coach went 4 for 4 and scored 4 times. Handsome John went 3 for 4 and led the team with 4 RBI.

M. Brown, Attorney at Law, went 3 for 3 to add to the 21-hit barrage by the T-Bombs. Joy Toy and Cookie each had singles as the T-Bombs added 5 runs in the 4th to make it 13-4.

Game Notes
Webmaster had 2 hits, but his hardest hit of the night was his fielder's choice rocket off the knee-braced and limping 3rd sacker for the House Dems. The HD 3rd baselady made the force at 3rd and limped to the dugout in pain. Sorry about that!... The T-Bombs turned a double play (Scoops-Tina-Webmaster) and had one turned on them... Megan missed the game but still played -- solve that riddle? Megan should return next week one way or the other... The Tabor Bombs announced that Sept. 9 the team will wear throwback jerseys. The blue Spuds jerseys will be donned by the team for the game against DOC-2...No word on the player from the team that took the softball off the back of the head. I guess she's okay.

Coach's Comments
3-0 start Coach? Are you the team to beat?
Well that’s what all you expert statisticians out there are probably saying, just by looking at the standings. I think we’re playing some good ball, but we got a couple games in the coming weeks that I think will tell us a lot about who we really are.

Your team is playing good defense and getting good pitching?

Yeah boy, ya know that’s what I’ve really been most proud of this season so far. ‘We’re not going out there and beating ourselves, and that’s the most important thing. We started off a little rough by making two errors and I walked a guy with the bases loaded, which gave them two runs, but then we came back and played lights out the rest of the game. We kept fightin’ and I’ll never be disappointed with effort like that.
Your middle of the order is producing big time?

I’ll tell ya, I’ve been extremely pleased with the way everyone, top to bottom, has been swingin’ the stick so far. People are getting on base and givin’ us a chance. But you put people in the middle of the order because you expect them to produce, and the fact that they’ve been doing that is a big reason why we’re beating teams by 10 or more each week.
Looking ahead, what does your team need to do to stay at the top?
Don’t never get complacent, and take it one week at a time. There’s always something you can take from this game and improve on it for the next game. Ya gotta go in each week thinkin’ that this is the most important game of the year because it’s the next one.

Up next for the Tabor Bombs...the Gov's team at 10 p.m. next Wednesday.

SPD Gameday: Game 3 vs. House Democrats

T-Bombs (2-0) vs. House Dems (0-2)
Field 2 at Chuck Klein
9 p.m.

Coach Thoughts
Let me tell ya what! Only thing better than 2-0 is 3-0! We did good playing with the target on our back last week, but we can’t let up. Have you ever caught crickets in a jar before? Well, if you haven’t, let me tell ya what happens. Once you catch the crickets in the jar, they start jumping to try and get out, and all they keep hittin’ is the lid. After a while you can take the lid off and they’ll only jump as high as where that lid was. They get complacent and only do the bare minimum. They think they don’t need to try and jump higher anymore! Don’t be like that dadgum crickets. Once we get complacent, we’re gonna start losin’ ballgames. Hey….if you ain’t first, you’re last!!!

T-Bombs plate 7 in 6th for 13-3 win

For the second straight game, the Tabor Bombs were closers. A 7-run sixth inning closed out a 13-3 victory for the T-Bombs (2-0) and the referees stopped the fight due to the league 10-run rule.

Two Scoops led the way with a 4-for-4 performance. He scored 4 runs, tripled twice and made an outstanding backhand stop and throw in the middle innings. Handsome John had 3 more hits and is now 7 for 8 on the season.

Leading 6-3 in the bottom of the 6th, Webmaster led off the inning with his first career triple. He later scored a run and then he closed the game with a 2-out, bases-loaded double that forced the umpire to stop the fight.

"I hit a few on the screws tonight," Webmaster said. "Coach didn't leave us his bats, but Cookie's bat was just fine. I popped a few up, but came through in the end."

New Joe had 2 hits, including a double, while Lawyer Brown had 2 RBI. The T-Bombs play the House Democrats (0-2) next Wednesday at 9 p.m.

Game Notes: Cookie extended her hitting streak to 2 games with her single in the 6th as the T-Bombs batted around. Two Scoops and his sidekick Megan made what seemed like 10 forceouts at second. Webmaster's ringer fill-in pitcher Ky was brilliant walking no Senate batters. Coach Kyle and Tina T.O.F. missed the game because of "simultaneous weddings in different states." Their both due for MRIs on Monday and are listed as day-to-day.

SPD Tabor Bombs Gameday: Week 2

vs.

Tabor Bombs (1-0) vs. Senate (1-0), 9 p.m. Field #2

It's Wednesday and it's raining again. A 30% chance of showers until gametime, so it looks like we'll play. I'd say Chuck Klein staff would like to get play in tonight with the park shut down for a week. Get your Accuweather Forecast here. Weather.com is soooo 2006.

But enough about the damn weather! It's time to get ready for another T-Bombs victory. Fresh off the season-opening victory, the T-Bombs set atop the Rec League standings. Of all the 1-0 teams, the T-Bombs scored the most runs in week 1. Senate is also 1-0 with a 7-6 victory over DOC-2.

T-Bombs make roster move
In case you've been living on an island and don't know. Starting secondbasewoman Lisa "Doo-Doo" T. is out for the season. You may have caught her wheeling around the office or on crutches. Doctors confirmed our worst fears and Doo-Doo did suffer a season-ending leg injury. Lisa T. was moved to the 60-day disabled list.

It didn't take the T-Bombs long to fill the void as Tuesday they signed journeywoman infielder Megan, who played third base on The Spuds last year. Megan (photo courtesy of Facebook) will move to second base and wear the No. 8 jersey, worn by Mel Belle M. in the spring.

"Were excited to have Megan back," Coach Kyle said. "She brings a good glove and a good bat. We're gonna miss Doo-Doo, but Megan brings the same kind of intensity. She may not use as much foul language, but she's got the fire."

Coach Thoughts
For our entire existence, we’ve been the dadgum loveable losers. BUT NOW WE’RE ON TOP OF THAT MOUNTAIN. I wanna know who’s gonna fight to stay on top of that mountain. Don’t let nobody push you off of that mountain! That Senate team don’t care that we won last week, because they won too. In their minds, they should be where we are. They think they should be on top on that mountain. We’re gonna find out how we play with a target on our backs this week. Gonna find out who wants it! If that Senate team thought passin’ that budget was tough, they ain’t seen nothin’. Because they’re about to get ‘em a taste of them Taborbombs! LET’S GET FIRED UP!!!

Report: Lisa "Doo Doo" T. placed on 15-day DL

The Indianapolis Star is reporting that Tabor Bombs secondbasewoman Lisa "Doo Doo" T. will miss 4-6 weeks, and possibly the rest of the season, due to an ankle injury.

Doo Doo injured the ankle on a slide into second base in last night's 17-5 T-Bombs victory.

"This injury leaves us with an open spot in our roster for the time-being We need to start looking right now for a female player for next week. Without Lisa, we only have 3 girls which means we would have to take an out every time through the order."

Hey ladies!!! Wanna play for the T-Bombs...Apply here

Victory!! SPD pounds IEDC 17-5

Big two-out hits and a total team effort were part of a big win for the SPD Tabor Bombs.

The T-Bombs exploded in the final innings to derail IEDC 17-5 to start the season 1-0. "Handsome" John H. was 4 for 4 with 5 runs batted in while Coach Kyle and "New" Joe each batted in 3 runs.

Leadoffman "Webmaster" Jeff reached base 4 times and scored 4 runs. Joy "Toy" also reached base 4 times, had an RBI and scored twice.

The win came at a cost as secondbasewoman Lisa T. injured an ankle sliding into second in the 5th inning. LT finished the game as catcher, but her status is unknown pending an MRI on Thursday.

Kyle (1-0) pitched all 5 innings for the T-Bombs, who trailed 2-1 after one inning.

Notes: "Cookie" Janet had her first hit of her SPD career lining a single to right center in her first at-bat...SPD had a rare 3 up, 3 down inning on defense in the 4th inning...IEDC had an inside-the-park-HR...SPD turned a double play on a flyball to left - if you're scoring at home that play went 7-6-3...

Coach Kyle Unplugged
On team's performance...
Boy, I’ll tell ya, I couldn’t be prouder of this team. We showed a lot of heart and a lot of effort tonight and,
all-in-al, put together a pretty solid performance. I tell these guys all the time, “hey, don’t quit. Be a competitor” and boy they sure showed that tonight. I’ll admit I was a little nervous in the beginning, ya know, we came out a little shaky. But once we settled down, we got into a groove. The 2-out hits were huge. Ya know, it all goes back to that don’t quit mentality. You gotta go to the plate with 2 outs and attack the ball the same way you would if there were 0 outs, and we did a great job of that tonight. Big big team win.

On John's 4 for 4 performance...
Ole John sure made me look like a genius tonight. He’s a solid performer through and through, so I wanted to put him in a spot where I felt he could really contribute and make the biggest impact. You just can ask for much more than 4-4 with 5 RBI out of your clean-up spot.

On the Lisa T injury...
Yeah, it looks like we might lose her a little while. At first we thought it might just be a bruised foot, but now it looks a little more serious. We should know more in the next few days. You hate to see someone with Tabor’s intensity go down while making a hustle play. Obviously we’re gonna miss her being out there. She was our emotional leader for sure, but, hey, the season must go on. We’re gonna have to make some personnel decisions over the next week, but we’re definitely hopeful that we’ll get Tabor back out there at some point this season.

On big contributions from all of the four T-Bomb ladies...
I’m real proud of our ladies. They all played extremely hard. They were all real patient at the plate and gave themselves a chance. Cookie had the biggest hit from the ladies side tonight, and Tina and Joy did a great job of getting themselves on base and letting the boys drive ‘em in. I felt like they played with a lot of confidence tonight and I hope that we can keep that going for the next 9 games. I guarantee ya we don’t score 17 runs without them playing as well as they did tonight.

On throwing strikes on the mound...
Well, I had a little bit of a hip injury in the spring that I think really effected my performance, even though I didn’t want to admit it then. As games would go on, It would get pretty fatigued and cause me to get sloppy in my motion and be inconsistent with hitting the strike zone. It’s 100% now, and I’m feeling pretty strong. I’ve been pitching on two other teams this summer, so I feel like I’m in the best condition I’ve been in for a while.

On SPD over .500 for the first time ever...
Hey, I ain’t never surprised about a win, because I come out every game expecting to win. You might as well not even show up if you think you’re gonna lose. With that said, it sure feels good to be a winner. We can walk around and brag to our buddies that we’re in first place. We’re gonna enjoy this one for a day, but then it’s back to work because that Senate team ain’t gonna give a dadgum that we won when they play us next week. Everybody on the team’s gotta remember that the next game is the most important one because it’s the next one. It’s a 10 game season which means we gotta come ready to play for the next 9 games or this win don’t mean squat.

Coach Thoughts:

It’s a great day to be a fighting Taborbomb! Start of the season always reminds me of a little story: One day there was this Indian fella standing on the corner selling arrow heads. A pretty woman walked by, and he raised his hand and said “Chance!” Another pretty woman walked by, and again, he raised his hand and said “Chance!” After seeing this a few times, another man who was selling oranges came over to him and asked “Hey feller. Ain’t you supposed to be saying ‘Hao’?” The Indian turned to the man and said “Me know how, me want chance!” That’s how I feel about our team this season. We know how to become a winning team…we just need a chance to prove it. Now let’s get stinkin’ pumped!
